Project Overview
Located in the heart of downtown Nelson, the Kootenay Co-op Store and Greenspace is a community-focused grocery destination. The expansive co-operative features a wide variety of amenities, including a café, wellness center, butcher, and extensive sections dedicated to organic and local foods. Designed with connection in mind, the building offers welcoming interior and exterior gathering spaces that encourage community members to socialize while shopping for sustainable food.
Execution & Phasing
The execution of this project by North Mountain Construction was completed with an actual value of $6,500,000 and remarkably involved zero change orders. The development occurred in two distinct phases: the main grocery store ($6,300,000) was completed between March and August 2016, while the exterior Greenspace structure ($150,000)—designed by Thomas Loh Architects and fabricated by North Mountain Construction—was erected in the summer of 2021. The build was expertly guided by a dedicated team of key personnel, including Managing Director Gabe Tyler, Construction Director Kerri Larson, and Site Superintendent Jesse Robinson
