Project Overview
The Columbia Basin Trust (CBT) Nakusp Office Build establishes a permanent presence for the Trust within the community after 27 years of leasing. Located at 83 and 85 Nelson Ave N, the new two-story, 4,039-square-foot facility is thoughtfully designed by Nelson-based Studio 9 Architecture + Planning to meet the needs of local residents and provide increased capacity for staff. The building features a mix of offices, a 16-person boardroom, and modern staff amenities to serve the region’s growing needs. It also meets rigorous 2024 BC Building Code accessibility standards, including wheelchair-accessible parking, let-down sidewalks, automatic door openers, and an incline wheelchair lift.
Construction & Sustainability
As the Construction Manager for this project, North Mountain Construction brings decades of expertise and a collaborative, client-centric approach. Operating with a vertically integrated model, our team is maximizing the use of Columbia Basin resources by prioritizing local sub-trades, materials, and equipment to support the regional economy. The project sets a benchmark for energy efficiency, meeting BC Energy Step Code 3 with the potential for Step Code 4. The design incorporates a largely wood-based structure and canopy, an electric vehicle (EV) charging station, secure bike storage, and a 20kW solar array system with 45 high-efficiency panels covering the roof to drastically reduce energy consumption.

“Breaking ground on our new office in Nakusp is not just about construction—it’s about strengthening our connection to this community. We opened our first office here 26 years ago, and today, we’re building on that foundation to create a lasting presence that will serve both our staff and the region for years to come.”
