Project Overview
North Mountain Construction is proud to serve as the Construction Manager for the Fernie Firehall Redevelopment, located in the historic downtown district of Fernie, BC. Working in collaborative partnership with the Elk Valley Family Society, New Commons Development, and Zeidler Architecture, this project transforms a dormant firehall lot—unused since 2022—into a vibrant, mixed-use community hub. The new five-storey complex will feature approximately 3,272 square feet of ground-floor commercial retail space, along with 44 long-term residential rental units ranging from studios to two-bedroom apartments. Ultimately, this development will provide much-needed affordable, barrier-free housing options to support the rapidly growing Fernie community.
Construction Management & Sustainability
As Construction Manager, our team is providing comprehensive oversight across all phases of the project, from pre-construction value engineering and cost planning to full site execution. The building’s design features one level of underground parking, a durable concrete structure up to the second-level podium, and wood-frame construction for the upper storeys. Designed with sustainability at the forefront, the development will be highly energy-efficient, targeting Step Code 3 or higher to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Through our dedicated pre-construction planning and deep commitment to quality and safety, North Mountain Construction is dedicated to delivering a state-of-the-art facility that enhances the community while staying on schedule and within budget
